Millions of Dehumidifiers Recalled Over Fire Hazard

A major recall has been issued for roughly 5.6 million dehumidifiers that were manufactured overseas by Gree® and Midea® and sold under many popular retail brand names, such as Frigidare, GE, and Kenmore. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) hundreds of systems that were manufactured by Gree have reportedly caught on fire and resulted in $19 million in property damage and units manufactured by Midea have caused a reported $4.8 million in property damage.

If you have a dehumidifier that was purchased between January 2005 and August 2013, it’s imperative that you take the following precautions:

1. Locate the Model Number on your Dehumidifier
You can find the model number on a name plate sticker that is usually found on the back, side, or front of the system.

2. Check the Manufacturers’ Websites
Once you know the model number, you can check on the manufacturers’ website to see if it has been recalled. You can also view a list of recalled brands for both Gree and Midea at the bottom of this post.
